Volunteering Opportunities

There are many opportunities for radio amateurs to volunteer and get involved with their local communities and the area at large throughout the year - although typically the “season” of events range from April to October when the weather isn’t terrible, since many of them are in athletics and require radio operators for medical-related coverage.

If you are interested in volunteering with an MIT contingent for any event that uses amateur radio (including those not listed!), please contact the officers using the contact information to the right.

If you’ve no experience volunteering, that’s fine! Many of these events are great “starter” events, but if you are still unsure, you can ask to be paired with an experienced volunteer elmer (that’s ham radio lingo for “mentor”) to get your feet into the water.

The following is a list of events in the Metro Boston area that seek amateur radio operators every year - although there are many more that are not T accessible that MIT volunteers head to. If we’ve missed something, let us know!
